The King Spa & Sauna Palisades Park in New Jersey used to be a 24 hour spa, however due to the current situation opening times have changed to 9 am to 11 pm. (However, please check their website also, there might be an updated opening time eventually.) This facility offers a wide variety of spa treatments in order to accommodate all visitors alike. It is geared to create a wonderful spa day to rejuvenate according to the ancient secrets of Korean baths.
Once the facility is in full swing again, we are looking forward to entering the warm and hot sauna and steam room to plunge afterwards into cold water basins! The cold water basins might be a little chilly at first (especially after the hot sauna or steam room) but many have reported that they feel so great afterwards like never before 🙂 The King Spa & Sauna is about having a fantastic time and maybe, your body’ immune system and health is improving along the way. Make sure to clear out your calendar, because you will want to stay for quite some time! Also, don’t forget to bring some appetite, since this spa is not about fasting (even though you can do that too) but also about enjoying the pleasures of food … of course only if you would like so!
With all this going on, why not calling it a King’s Spa?
In case you never have been in a Korean Bath House, you have to try it out, especially with these deals ! It is actually located in New Jersey, NJ, Pennsylvania however not a far distance from New York. It is definitely worth the short trip, especially since you can stay there for many hours.
There are many different rooms available (such as the Gold Room as an example) in this massive 40,000-square-foot facility. It is a Korean Spa and the facility houses multiple floors, which each feature saunas aimed at providing visitors with relaxation and health benefits, very similar to Russian and Turkish Bath Houses. The tradition of thermotherapy, purification and skin rejuvenation dates back many centuries. The saunas are heated to a pore-opening 200 degrees Celsius from burning oak-tree wood, the there is a the dome-shaped hot-steam room, or also known as the “bulhanjeungmok” in Korean Language. It features floors made of yellow soil and salt that replicate a 500-year-old therapy designed to treat illness and pain. On the complete opposite side of the temperature spectrum, the ice sauna uses freezer-like frosted walls to cool the air around patrons sitting on log stools or standing on their hands. Between sauna visits, guests may relax in one of the lounges, or get a haircut. There is also a Korean Restaurant on the premises for a warm Korean meal or refreshing dessert.
In this video you get in insider view of someone visiting the spa. Take a walk with the visitor and see her impressions right through her lens:
It is noteworthy to mention that there is a 15-minute recommended maximum time for each sauna to not overly exhaust you body. You might not realize it when you are in the sauna how time can go so fast, so it might be good to watch the clock (at least a little). You might also want to drink lots of water, listen to your body, and go slow. If you’re feeling tired, you have the options to relax in the meditation area or go the movie theater area.
Check out this interesting article from the New York Times about “A look at Korea’s Culture from the Bath House“. This might give you a better understanding of the whole experience in this Korean Spa.
Bring your friends or family and make this a fantastic time to get together and enjoy a good time with each other!
Please check with your physician to make sure there are no contraindication to visiting a sauna or having fast temperature changes by stepping into a cold basin after your body is heated up.
