What is a Platelet-Rich Plasma Injection or PRP?
This treatment method uses the patient’s own cells to reduce wrinkles, fine lines, scars, age spots and to smooth skin texture.
Originally this procedure (PRP) has been and used in medical treatments for nerve injury, tendinitis, osteoarthritis, cardiac muscle injury, bone repair and regeneration and more until it found its way in the beauty industry.
There will be up to 55cc of the patient’s blood drawn and put into a syringe, where it is spun down into a centrifuge to draw out its platelet-rich plasma, or PRP. (In a blood donation typically there will be 500cc drawn, so this amount in PRP is relatively small) After a small amount of calcium, the PRP is then injected into treatment areas. This signals enzymes to heal the skin, and it also triggers collagen production, which together can help to keep skin smooth and firm.
Always ask your physician for any health advice and for a complete understanding of this procedure. Results are typically not immediate and not permanent.
